Hmmm lol. I’ve been vegetarian for a few years for many of the reasons presented: sanctity of life, not wanting to participate in another being’s suffering, etc. this book started off as an interesting look into the meat industry and commentary on the seemingly standard feelings toward meat in society. Maybe it was on me for expecting a more philosophical discussion, but the author suddenly WENT NUTS on insisting that vegans have “broken free of the matrix.” She makes comparisons to the holocaust as well so heads up on that. I feel like this book could have been so much more, and in being less slanted may have achieved its greater aim to reach a greater audience. For me, this seems like a book for vegans who already think this way.
If you consider yourself a compassionate person and you still eat meat - I beg you to read this book! Overall it is a very good & quick read without being preachy. The author offers a an unpacking of the invisible backpack of entitlement of human superiority. This book discusses the cognitive games we play to justify the widespread Holocaust of non-human animals and offers a different perspective for viewing the way we look at our place in life on this planet.

Un ensayo interesante para quienes se inician en el vegetarianismo o quieren saber más sobre el funcionamiento del sistema. Más allá de los capitulos 2 y 3 en los que realmente se moja y presenta testimonios (muy duros, por cierto), siento que es muy superficial y se limita a una acumulación de datos que no son ninguna revelación para quienes ya estamos introducidos en este mundo.
