This book made me laugh and want to read more. I want to read the books referenced in the story and I want a sequel. I'd like to hear other perspectives within the book. My big question: if I send letters to the addresses in the book - will someone reply?
واقعا مدام نژادهای مختلف مرغهای داستان رو قاطی میکردم و گیج میشدم.
If you love Roald Dahl's children's stories, but hate some of the attitudes, this is a good book for you to read. This is an absolutely adorable story of a middle school kid who inherits her great-uncle's unusual chickens after her parents inherit his farm. Complete with a villain who wants the chickens for evil purposes, low grade farce about keeping the chickens safe, and a range of fabulous supporting characters.
The story comes through entirely through the letters that Sofia writes -- those that are sent, such as to the chicken supply company, and those that are not, such as to Sofia's abuela --and there is such an innocence to much of it.

This was SO CUTE and the ending was SO HOKEY. I really did enjoy it though - so adorable.
Dear ten-year-old me:
You don't know it yet, but there is a book out there in the future meant just for you. There is a book that encapsulates exactly how you feel about chickens. It's spunky, and clever, and it has funny illustrations, and showcases great POC and female role-models (I know you don't really care about that yet, but 19-year-old you does), and the chickens are absolutely and purely adorable. It's called Unusual Chickens for the Exceptional Poultry Farmer and it's about a girl who inherits chickens with superpowers. I repeat. Chickens with superpowers. Also, there is a sequel that came out last year and 19-year-old you needs it RIGHT NOW.
Sincerely,
The Future

This is a cute, funny book for kids ages 8 to 14. Twelve year old Sophie has moved with her parents to her uncle's farm and along with the farm, they inherited his unusual chickens. Sophie writes letters explaining how things are going to her deceased abuela, as well as to her deceased uncle and to the Redwood Farm Supply, whose flyer Sophie has found in the barn. Along with the helpful mailman, George and a nice neighbor boy, Sophie rounds up the unusual chickens and the librarian helps her find books about how to care for them. She also receives poorly typed replies to her letters to the farm supply company from a woman named Agnes, who sends her chicken raising lessons. I received this book free to review from Netgalley and I highly recommend it.
