I’ve been excited to read this book for more than a year because a childhood friend of mine wrote it. More exciting is the fact that this is a book I’d absolutely pick up on my own. The setup of the main character renting his house in an Air BNB style arrangement is perfect for introducing many characters. This is a bit like a collection of three short stories tied together by the main Super Host. I really enjoyed learning about each person and their own weaknesses and complexities. Good read.

This was a very random pick for me. I saw it on a shelf at a local bookstore and the owner had recommended it. Overall, I enjoyed reading this. I kept wanting to know what happened to the guests after they'd left and it's frustrating not to but I guess that's the point really. Who keeps in touch with the Airbnb host/guest after the transaction has ended? The ending, for all the questions still left open, is fitting. This was a very solid first novel for Kate Russo.
It was very slow and kind of made me sad
Way too vulgar for my liking. Countless F bombs and at 26 pages there was already a graphic description of a teenager hiring a sex worker.

Honestly, it felt like Bennett's female houseguests were just a rotating cast of tropes to push him into being a decent human. Not a fan.

Well written, in a technical sense, but seems to be more of a series of semi-related vignettes than an actual plotted book. Things sort of pull together for the very flawed main character in the last third but it seems rather meandering until then. I couldn't bring myself to care much about most of the characters. Maybe the author's intent was to evoke a short-term rental type of feel where you don't get to learn the whole story of anyone? If so, it was probably successful. Not to my taste, though the writing style was indeed good.
Graphic: Toxic relationship, Alcohol
Moderate: Domestic abuse
Minor: Drug use, Sexual assault
For some reason I thought this was gonna be a really light read but it wasn't. I liked it quite a lot but it was dense compared to what I had expected and it was sad and had some triggering stories but it also felt like it had a nice ending in a melancholy way
