CW: death of a parent, child death, grief, bullying

I didn’t know too much about Sheets going into it. I was drawn to it from seeing it frequently on the internet and also because I’m a HUGE laundry nerd. 61% of my job revolves around laundry and I love it.

Random facts about Hayley aside, this graphic novel was so cute. I’m obsessed with the illustrations. The colors used are so beautiful and vibrant and this story jumps off the page.

This is a graphic novel that is targeted for middle grade readers and handles tough subjects like grief and loneliness in such a compassionate and digestible way. And the friendship that blossoms between Marjorie and Wendell?! Adorable. Wendell is my favorite character by far. I loved the other Ghosts (Baby Timmy) as well and the Land of Ghosts was such a neat concept.

I know this is a middle-grade targeted graphic novel, but I found most of the adults in this one very frustrating. (Like when a handful of the adults storm into the dry cleaners and harass this THIRTEEN year old girl?!)

Other than that, I really enjoyed this story and read it in one sitting! Stay tuned for my thoughts on the sequel, Delicates!

For anyone that has read this, did you also get strong Kathy Najimy vibes from Trudy’s mom…?

This was a super sweet graphic novel. I loved Wendell, the ghost. I can’t get over just how truly nasty so many people were to a 13 year old girl who was running a business on her own. I’m sure it could happen but it just seemed so unbelievable to me (I know, I know...I’m willing to believe there are ghosts helping at the laundromat but not that people are nasty) it was hard to see past that for me. The illustrations in this are absolutely gorgeous thought and I loved that it switched between color and black and white depending on which realm we were in.

This was very cute. The baddie was a little stereotypical and the responsibility placed on a young girl was extensive. But it is a nice story about grief and friendship.

Beautiful art and a beautiful story. This is such a great middle grade graphic novel looking at grief and ghosts and death. I can see why this is so popular! Thummler's characters and great, and the whole ghost story is so unique. I loved the concept.
