An ok book with some unexpected twists but it did drag a little at times.
Everyone in this book except the hangman is seriously a god damn idiot.
Potzsch's novels should be praised by all lovers of reading. His novels are (novels like his) the reason I enjoy reading. Transported to a time and place and we get to live a different life, even if just for a little while.
I can't bring myself to waste more time on this book. The first book was so good - captivating. This one is boring.
I didn't enjoy it as much as Hangman's Daughter, but it was still really great. I look forward to book 3 in the series!
I think I enjoyed this follow-up more than I did The Hangman's Daughter because there was much more suspense in this storyline. There were ancient religious riddles to solve, people in hoods lurking in the corner, and other things that kept the pages turning.
I LOVED the Hangman's Daughter, the book that came before the Dark Monk, and while I liked this book, it wasn't as amazing as the original. I still love the characters, and I adore anything involving Templar mysteries, but I felt the writing style in this book was a downgrade from the amazing writing in the first one.
I enjoyed this Hangman's Daughter tale too. It's an interesting CSI- medieval style, literally. This mystery dealt more with medieval religion. I'm looking forward to his next book that is due out in January 2013.
I enjoyed the historical elements of the book, having studied 16th century European history in school, and I liked the main characters. However, I wasn't a huge fan of the plot, which is sort of the Da Vinci Code-like, I really didn't like how all the main points of the mysteries would be revealed to characters without saying what they were, and the translation was sometimes a bit awkward.
