Really immersive details and facts pack into the book. The author really went the extra mile researching this book.
I liked the book and the characters as much as the first one. There were moments in the book that needed some editing and paring down, but overall I liked it and will read the third book.
This book was heavy on the religious history of the area of Bavaria in which it is set. While there are multiple plot strands in this book, quite a few were predictable. The only two which were not predictable were Magdalena's trip to Augsburg and the actual Templar riddle. For those with an interest in the Knights Templar, this is a great book, but the focus was too heavy handed for my personal tastes.
The first book in the series was enjoyable historical fiction, but this one seemed derivative. The previous book was somewhat original in that it focused on the dregs of medieval society, such as the hangman, and the twist was that it was actually based on the author's own genealogical research into his own ancestors. I sort of felt like he ran out of ideas with this book and he sort of plopped his characters into a Dan Brown plot. Not horrible; just not that great.
3 1/2 Stars. This is another book in the Hangmans daughter tales. The author is descendant of that particular Hangmans dynasty and a lot of information he obtained from family documents. When i first read about the sequel to be released in the USA I was thrilled since i tremendously enjoyed the first book. The author is, at times, very descriptive of surroundings. If you have ever been to Bavaria in Germany or seen pictures, you can imagine the places the author takes you. I hope that there will be a sequel in the future. I can only recommend reading the first book [b:The Hangman's Daughter|10846479|The Hangman's Daughter|Oliver Potzsch|http://photo.goodreads.com/books/1327985944s/10846479.jpg|14381730]. Don't get me wrong, the second novel is totally stand alone, but you are missing out on a lot interesting information about the hangman and their status in the society.
Another great story from "The Hangman's Daughter" series. A fun, light read and a great mix of mystery solving, romance and action. I definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys light-hearted mysteries.
This book didn't seem to have the same focus that the first one did. It was still a pretty good read, but not good enough to ever read again.
Spellbinding page turner, can't wait till the next book,
A fun story, simply written.
I thoroughly enjoy the depiction of life in this era. I do wonder if some of the writing is lost in translation, or if it is indeed a young adult story...
