On par with the first one, although with a bit more action.

This review serves as a broad overview of the entire series.

In short should you read the series? Yes, in fact you should. There are many other more expensive titles that are surely far worse uses of your time.

These books are steeped in their historical roots which many people have pointed out. What I think is important to mention is that history (and truth to certain events) merely frames up a time period steeped in lore and paranoia level superstition. While some points of the story do at times feel repetitive the saga embraces an overall theme throughout.

At their core these are mysteries with an interesting cast of characters. As the story progresses people age and in some cases perish via all sorts of interesting ailments, tortures, executions and sickness. The author does a wonderful job at utilizing the knowledge of today to craft interesting solutions that seem innocuous in their time period but provide an enjoyable solution for the present day reader.

Did I find these books to be modern masterpieces of fiction? The answer to that is ultimately no however I did enjoy reading them and plan on sticking around for the upcoming adventures.

For the low price of $25 dollars you really can’t go wrong.

One continuous attack on catholics. Its a shame cause I really liked the first book in the series but after this one, Im done with the series.

In this second installment to "The Hangman's Daughter" mystery series, a priest has been poisoned, and Simon Fromweiser, Jakob Kuisel, and his daughter Magdalena team up Benedikta the priest's sister work together to find out why her brother died. It turns out to be bigger then they expected when it turns the church is looking for the treasure of the Knights Templar bury somewhere in a town in Germany.
One of the things I love about this second book is that involves the Knights Templar and religion and I'm sucker for that kind of mystery. The world's religious history is fascinating and the idea of this secret group existing is interesting. People will protect their belief systems ferociously and justify it by saying God told me to do and this novel examines that with its mystery. The book steadily puts together the mystery through cryptic clues like Dan Brown's books that are solved by Simon, Benedikta, and Magdalena. Benedikta is intriguing as an intriguing character with her worldiness and her wealthy appearance. She is meant to add drama as well a personal link to the murder victim. She is Magdalena's rival for Simon's affections as he is enchanted by her and even compares her to Magdalena, though we learn that her and Magdalena are not so different. We don't know if she is trustworthy and she adds some fun to the story. The novel feels claustrophobic as the characters traipse through tunnels and decrepit churches. The pace is slow at first, but picks up halfway through as our characters get closer to our final destination. The fact that this novel is own voices with the author being a descent of the Kuisel adds a personal touch. If you're a European History buff you might enjoy this series.

3.5 stars. I enjoyed the mystery, but, as I have found with Potzsch's other books, I didn't love the writing style. It is difficult to tell if that is a problem with the translation or the original text, but I find it a bit dry. Also, I had some problems with the way Magdalena was written in this book - I generally like her as a character because she does what she wants, despite expectations for her as a female and the child of the hangman. However, I found the jealousy and spitefulness she was shown to have to be a bit off-putting, especially since all of the women in the book seemed to have exaggerated jealousy, which makes it seem rather sexist...

Really enjoyed the second book of of the Hangman's Daughter. The only negative? I found out there's a third book that hasn't been released yet.

Znam da je priča bazirana na istinitim događajima i da je obitelj Kuisl stvarno postojala. I volim krimiće, pogotovo povijesne...

Not quite as fun as the first, but still very fun to read.

This was an interesting follow up to the first book. The character development is beautiful and I love that we see the likes of not just the hsngman but more of his daughter and simon.
