best romance novel I've read in a good long while 10/10 fake dating docs ruined if they can't get to this level

holy fuck yes a million times yes

i thought this would be your typical fake dating romance but i’m happy to say it is not,, reading this was extremely refreshing, it wasn’t just trope after trope without any plot but it still stayed true to the romance genre and it was beautiful i loved it so much

The read was exhausting.

a nice solid sunday read

Fake dating trope set in the backdrop of Hollywood's glitz and glamour, made me wonder how much of everything we see is real. This book gave me major Notting Hill and Normal People vibes.

While Leo and Win's relationship might have started as fake, you can see from the get-go that there was something innately good and genuine going on between them. It was fascinating watching the fake facade crack as they gradually blur the lines between friendship and being in love. Seeing from both their POVs is definitely a nice touch.

Win is such a nuanced and complex character. She loves her job, protective of her career and public image, and is constantly trying to prove herself in a field that's not usually friendly to women, especially women of color. She can be selfish but I can definitely understand her motivations and choices even though I don't have to like them. Leo's quiet devotion to Win is also such a treat.

This book is an excellent escapist read that's also teeming with insights on race, fame, privilege and privacy.

Loved Leo, found Win to be a bit exhausting and awful, but in a very understandable way.

A romance that wasn’t pure fluff. You get the ending you want without the cheesiness and utter predictability, and the characters are actually fleshed out and interesting (and deeply imperfect).
