Another book I had mixed thoughts on!
Firstly, I loved the premise of the book - I'm really fascinated by how the media can so easily construct or deconstruct the narrative of a person and how fake/PR relationships feed into this, so I was looking forward to a book that I hoped would be quite similar to The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I liked the characters of Win and Leo and thought they were well-developed and had lots of chemistry that oozed out of the book. I also loved the discussion of racism and sexism in the film industry throughout the book and how Leo's privilege and naivety caused him to be blind to Win's experiences as a WOC.
However, the book just wasn't as engaging and page-turning as I expected it to be. It took me a while to properly get into the book, and whilst I felt the book picked up a bit more in the second half ( after Win and Leo reconnected after their fight ) and I loved the end interview, the first half was very slow and uninteresting in most parts. The central conflict of the novel also felt quite weak, and whilst I understood the importance to Win and how it caused her to lose trust in Leo, I didn't think it was a big enough revelation to break them apart. I was expected something a bit more dramatic and interesting than a misunderstanding that could have easily been solved by one honest conversation.
Overall, an interesting premise and great characters but it fell flat for me from the beginning and only picked up in the second half of the novel.

I need more books about fictional famous people I feel like that should be my niche I love it
I read this in one day. It's about celebrity culture, and how much harder women of color have to work to achieve success in the film industry. Whitman is twenty-seven years old, and has been in the public eye ever since she won her first BAFTA award at age twenty. As a British-Indian woman she has had to carefully curate her image so that she is able to pursue her career as an actress. Her friend Leo has always played the role of her romantic interest in real life and not on set, especially when she needs a distraction from a media shitstorm or her image needs refurbishing. Whit will not allow herself to see that her feelings about Leo have deepened over the years and that her need to control the stories about her keeps her friends and family at a distance. I enjoy Whit and Leo as a couple who are there for each other in an unconventional relationship and I enjoyed watching their relationship change and grow. It was hard to see how hard Whit has to fight to succeed. I found this both amusing and insightful, and also I love a debut novel. I would read another by these authors.

It's good. I enjoyed it but I think a lot of the plot would have been better situated a bit more in the past because of the way paparazzi and celebrity worked but the social media is also a good time. Very enjoyable, I wish the romance and side characters were more fleshed out.
I liked the book overall. It was slow and not much happened but that was okay. I hated the characters in the middle of the book and then came to like them near the end. This was one of the better romance books I’ve read because I usually dislike them. Very pride and prejudice vibes. And I like that it touched on other issues with fame etc.
