This one started out really well. I was liking Roxanne and I was liking Dane. Things were mostly believable and I was mostly enjoying it. But then when we finally return to Albaterra, it just went down hill. I started to hate Roxanne and it all got very ridiculous again.

So Dane is still on Earth wiping out the human population with his warriors when he manages to get himself and a small group of his people captured. His magic sword doesn't allow the humans to take it from him, but for some reason or another, he can't use it. Separated from the others, Dane finds himself chained to a chair in a drab room. When a human woman shows up to talk to him, he's immediately taken with her and the contradictions she shows him.

Roxanne is the newly appointed alien liaison or some such thing and she has been tasked with making sure a peace treaty gets signed between the two of them before it's too late. Her first meeting with Dane does not go as she was expecting so she has him sent back to his cell for a while. During which time she just becomes more hot and bothered by thoughts of him.

Their next meeting goes a bit better with Dane making his demands about him and his people in exchange for bringing the idea of a peace treaty before the Council of Elders. And before you know it they're all bound for Albaterra with a handful of human soldiers and Roxanne.

Things looked promising when we get back, but never lived up to anything. Too many things don't get explained (like Duke's outburst) or make any sense, I wanted to punch Roxanne in her stupid face, these two are professing their love after minimum interactions and a fight, and then all of a sudden we're told the treaty was accepted and Dane's being officially made the Elder. I wonder if this author is afraid of writing an ending or something because these last two in particular have been abrupt and questionable.

I wanted to finish this series. I really did. I have all the books after all. And I tried. I really tried too. But I just can't right now. These women annoy the ever living fuck out of me and I am just NOT getting into the story much at all. Honestly, what I've liked the most has been the fighting scenes. So while it seems the majority of people have really enjoyed this series, I'm tapping out here.

Book Review
Title: Dane
Author: Ashley L. Hunt
Genre: Sci-Fi/Romance
Rating: ****
Review: The opening prologue of Dane was a little strange as it opens with an adult scene with I don’t see very often but it is cut short when Dane and his mystery woman are interrupted by someone else, someone who the woman seems to know. We learn that Dane is part of an alien tribe known as the A’li-uud that inhabit the planet Albaterra which is now under attack by humans. Dane is an elder meaning he has unique abilities that aid him in battle. Dane and his men are ultimately captured by the humans although there were loses on both sides. We also meet Roxanne who is the Ambassador of Alien Relations and has to now prove her worth. Dane was sent to Earth to destroy the humans and colonize the planet but this new series of events only increase his hatred for humans despite the fact his two brother Rex and Duke both fell in love with human women.
As we approach the ¼ mark in the novel we see Dane and Roxanne come face to face for the first time. Dane sees that even though the soliders treated his kind despicably that Roxanne is different from them and she reminds him of his month which he has been away from for over four months. We learn that Roxanne wishes to discuss a peace treaty between humans and the A’li-uud to preserve both races as they have equal weight in her eyes and she doesn’t seem the alien race as monsters like everyone else does. As they discuss the treaty Dane tells Roxanne there will be no end to the war between them and humans and that they only reason he is there is because he was ordered to be. We can see that the humans are clearly rattled and wish to end the war because they can’t stand against the alien race as they are superior beings.
As we approach the half way mark in the novel we Dane meet for a second time with Roxanne where he tells her he needs to meet with the Council in order to gain peace, meaning he has to return to his home planet. Roxanne doesn’t believe her superiors will let him go but they discuss whether what the A’li-uud are doing is right and she believes that Dane disagrees with the bloodshed which is true. We can also see mounting sexual tension between the pair and the effects they have on one another. We see Dane request Roxanne’s presence on the ship back to Albaterra with the other human, two weeks into their journey we see General Morgan become more forceful with Roxanne obviously attempting to bed her and in response she breaks his nose and all the while Dane watches, learning and he is drawn closer and more protective of Roxanne.
As we cross into the second half of the novel the group lands on Albaterra and Dane informs it is Roxanne’s job to meet with the Council despite Morgan’s protests. We also see despite their initial interactions that Dane intends to pick up his pursuit of Roxanne very soon and neither can wait. We see Roxanne and Dane disagree on what should happen after the peace treaty so she leaves running into Lokos, they talk briefly before Roxanne is attacked and kidnapped.
As we cross into the final section of the novel we find out that Roxanne wasn’t kidnapped but summoned to the Council with General Morgan and Dane. At the meeting Roxanne tries to explain the agreement but the A’li-uud won’t listen so she flips out screaming and shouting at them. She makes them realize they shouldn’t vindicate an entire race for the action of a few evil people. After the meeting the Council deliberate on their decision in this time Dane and Roxanne admits their feelings for one another emotionally and physically. We then learn that the Council accepted the decision and Roxanne has been living peacefully on Albaterra with Dane who has been made a fully Elder in the eyes of his people. The Council themselves and all the A’li-uud as well as humans have opened themselves up to co-habitation and harmony.
Overall, I liked Dane and will be reading the previous two books in this series although there are companion novels. Hunt’s writing was great and she manages to capture the unique voices of all the characters with ease. While I did feel there was a pacing and plot development issues it was still a fun, quick read that I would recommend to others.
