I love Inaba’s writing - it’s incredibly reflective and emotional, and just calming. I think it’s a great book for remembering the importance of relationships with animals and how crucial they are in some people’s lives. It just reminded me of the caring nature of humanity.

This book is a sweet and at times emotional story of the author and her relationship with her cat. It reads easily, while still dealing with heavier topics. I liked the writing style, it's clear and good to follow. It's not too poetic, but more straightforward as many current Japanese books. The book also includes poems and I enjoyed them mixed into the chapters. At times, the life of the narrato felt a bit flat. I wish we got to learn more about her life, career, solitude or life decisions. Instead the focus of the book is mainly on Mii the cat and her relationship with the cat.
Thank you netgalley for the proof.

This was a beautifully-told story of the author's twenty year relationship with their cat. It brought back memories of my own beloved cat, so it was bittersweet but wonderful. It really captured the complicated emotions involved in loving animals and looking after them as they age quicker than you'd like.

I'm not quite sure how to feel about this book. I expected it to be more focussed on the cat, I suppose. It was more of an autobiography than the collection of cute cat stories I was expecting.
But the ending... I cried, not going to lie.
