My anger was not confined to estate agents only. I felt hatred for the whole of Tokyo, mistrusted anyone who didn't keep pets, and felt animosity towards those able to live on houses that allowed cats or who could solve everything with money. What was do bad about cats? Humans weren't everything.

Girl me too.

Having had to say goodbye to my own furry best friend of 18 years just a month ago I knew this would hit hard. But I also picked this one up at this moment since I knew I wouldn't have been able to read this book while my cat was still alive.
The story is written very poetically, but it's the bond that the writer has with her cat that is the most touching part. Losing a pet is hard, but it is comforting to read stories of other people who also have loved their pet as much as you do. It doesn't bring back the pet or makes the grief less, but it is healing to know you're not alone in this feeling.
