I found the ending unsatisfactory. This appears to be a long series with no end in sight (WoT, ASoIaF). So far it's just not grabbing me. The last fourth is mostly one long really tedious battle. I was listening to it so couldn't flip pages forward.

There are so many similarities between this series and the "Wheel of Time" that you could imagine it is set in an earlier cycle, just prior to the evolution of the Aes Sedai. Ben is becoming a warder in service to Amelie.
Regardless, I'm enjoying the series and see no reason to stop short of the finish line. It's good stuff.

I’m SO glad I stuck with this series after a somewhat mediocre first book because this one was infinitely better. There’s still some word building going on but it’s much faster paced and action packed alongside the world building which is exactly what was missing from the first book. I’m really enjoying the direction the story seems to be headed, it’s dark and grim and filled with peril and I’m very much looking forward to see where it all goes. The characters are really growing on me as we get to know them more, their different personalities and quirks really add something to the story. I can’t wait to see what happens in the next book, I’m expecting it to be even better than this one!
This book is a fun read, like its predecessor. I found it to be equally compelling and hard to put down. There is a lot more "fantasy" action in this, when compared to the previous book.
If the previous book was 'The Fellowship of the Ring', this is "The Two Towers". There are a lot of parallels that can be drawn between the two series - the way the fellowship is created, the way it breaks down, the way some people meet back, the siege - so on and so forth. But there are a lot of differences and a lot of original content too, which makes this series stand out on its own.
I, for one, am eagerly looking forward to the next instalment.

3.5 stars. A stronger plot than book 1, and the characters are starting to get interesting. I’m hopeful for book 3!
