I am the mother in my case but I wanted to read it. It was pretty funny! I didn't feel it was jam packed with info but it is more for the dad and how to support mom so that's fine.

My husband purchased this at a library book sale, and I picked it up out of curiosity.
"Dude, You're Gonna Be a Dad!" is an informative book marketed towards men about what to expect when their partners are pregnant. This book focuses more so on the pregnancy portion, with a little bit of birth sprinkled in, but it does briefly touch upon postpartum and actually caring for a baby.
Upon first glance, this book seems like the epitome of toxic masculinity. The book pokes fun at different aspects of pregnancy and birth in a way that seems dismissive or extreme. For example, there is a portion when the author equates breastfeeding experts as Evangelicals, and that they will try to force your partner into choosing breastfeeding. The author then goes on to say that if this is not what you want to kick them to the curb. Although I think this is true to an extent, I do not think breastfeeding professionals will be quite as aggressive in their sales pitch.
I think this book is actually supposed to come across more sarcastic, and more akin to how a guy "traditionally" talks with other guys. Becoming a Dad can be scary, and sometimes a little humor can help a guy to ease the transition.
Do I think this book is necessary? No. But, if you or someone you know wants some solid information laced with a bit of outlandish thinking, this book may be entertaining for you.

I read and receive books like this as gifts now. Is my life over?

Misogynistic, leans too much into the sex-crazed, uninterested father-to-be, "wallstreet bro" stereotypes, tries too hard to be funny and edgy--failing at both and just comes across as cringey and offensive.

There is some wisdom in this book, but readers have to forgive a lot of inflammatory “jokes” to find it. This humor certainly hasn’t aged well, but I think it probably would’ve been tough to digest a decade ago when published. One unexpected joy is that my wife and I shared good moments discussing the frequent “jaw-dropping” statements. I read the entire book as it was a gift. The author demonstrates good perspective and is less cringy in the 2nd and 4th trimesters, in my opinion.

Decent book. Fairly funny. I got some good things out of it. But occationally leaned toward the 'dufus dad'. Most of the time I enjoyed it.

Good info within, but written with a rather annoying/patronizing voice.

It’s better than nothing but if you’re serious about your new duties as a dad, there are much, much better books to read.
