I am ready to find out what happens next but at the same time, I am ready for some conclusions. This is beginning to remind me of the Wheel of Time series - only because it continues on for so many books. I *like* the books but perhaps not twelve of them?

Really enjoyed this 5th book in the trilogy, but it honestly took me way to long to read (could have used some editing to cut out some extraneous details and thin it out a little). I love the ending (I won't spoil it for you), and can't wait for the next book!

What an incredible series. Martin's world is flawless. His biggest success--and I would argue that this is what keeps us on the edge of our seats and is what more authors should be doing--is his perpetual habit of denying his characters EVERYTHING they want. He keeps wish fulfillment SO CLOSE to his characters' reach but none of them ever touch it. None of the Starks are reunited. Asha doesn't get to be queen. Dany has dragons but no way to control them. Jon Snow doesn't get to leave the wall, even when offered a way out of the bastard-dom we readers all know is so undeserved. The moments of triumph we see in other epics of this genre are nearly absent in Martin's narrative. When talking about these novels (or the television series), many comment that "anyone can die" but it is more than that; all of these characters want things and Martin is well adept at recognizing, acknowledging, and then denying these wants--and yes, sometimes those wants include staying alive.

Finished this so long ago now I can only say that I am not tired of reading George R R Martin's saga of the quest for the Iron Throne. His imagination knows no bounds, and more exotic lands and people are introduced in this book.
Almost too much has happened for me to keep it straight, and there are certain elements of the story I find more interesting than others. That may be a testament to my impatience to know how the major plot ends than to a detriment in Martin's style.
As with Tolkien's Rivendell and Mordor, I now have Winterfell and The Wall, the Dothraki Sea, and Dorn, and many, many other strange and wonderful places that exist permanently in my mind. The characters too, especially my favorites, are forever etched in my mind and heart- long live Arya!

How long do I have to wait to find out more?!

This was definitely one of the better books in the series.
