Maybe more of a 2.5

I was really intrigued by the premise of this piece, and the writing in terms of imagery/words used was lovely. Unfortunately, my experience of those things was tainted by trying to keep track of the timeline of all of this. At first I was under the impression that we were shifting between past and present in flashbacks, but then things got so much more tangled as the book went on that I couldn't keep track anymore. I almost wonder if it wouldn't've been better off going more chronologically, or with markers of time to help us keep better track of what events were happening when.

I also didn't really like how Sylvana and Aurelius were buried together. It seemed to me that their love had become twisted into something else, and it didn't feel appropriate to have that ending be the way it was because of it.
