And above all, watch with glittering eyes the whole world around you because the greatest secrets are always hidden in the most unlikely places. Those who don’t believe in magic will never find it.

Ah, and during the Feast of The Three Wise Men or Magi or whatever. Lovely.

* Maybe on my blog.

My daughter and I have decided to read Ronald Dahl together. The Minpins was the first story we could find in the library. We both found it cute and charming.

I don't know how I made it this long without reading one of Dahl's titles. It was short, the illustrations were beautiful, and the sense of a child's interior life was beautiful and jealousy-invoking. Atticus and I were sad that it was over.

Eh...this is as low a three as I could possibly give a book. It's not bad, just shockingly average for a Dahl book. It's definitely a lot nicer than his other works, with none of the grossness or cruelty that I've grown to expect and love from him. In fact, aside from words such as "snozzwanglers" and "whangdoodles," this book is nearly indistinguishable from any other picture book you could grab at random. Definitely one that I don't anticipate reading again, unless I have a kid who's as big a completist as I am and (hopefully) gets into Dahl.

An above all, watch with glittering eyes the world around you because the greatest secrets are hidden in the most unlikely places.

I didn't love it as much as my favorite Matilda. but it's a Dahl so it's definitely a fun read. And, as usual, the Quentin Blake illustrations are brilliant.

Loved this book as a kid! I had the audiobook read by Robbie Coltrane and combined with the orchestral music, he did an amazing job at making it exciting. It always scared me just a little but that's what kept me engaged.

My beloved dog is a Min-Pin and I found this title searching for books about him! But it worked out well because this is a good story for kids and I've got a kid now. Roald Dahl wrote some seriously good stuff that did not underestimate children's abilities.
