what would i give to be this level of delusional— i don’t know what to think of this book bc i was really stuck on trying to suspend my disbelief.

on one hand, i aggressively personally understand the motivation behind the choices made bc that pressure that comes with being a daughter to filipinx immigrants— i get it; i really, genuinely do. on the other hand, while i know this is fiction, the plot is so improbable

There was definitely a decent message here it just wasn’t done well. The premise of the book is kind of stupid and unrealistic and the execution isn’t any better. Perla’s meant to be “smart” but every single thing she does is really fucking stupid. The book tries to pass it off as oh she’s only 16 and she’s under so much stress, but I’m 15 and I don’t know what the fuck she thinks she’s doing. She’s deeply in debt because she has to buy her own food and clothes, yet she spends like 300$ on a school merch competition with her friend and then spends 150$ to buy a bikini to go surfing with the 19 year old guy she has a crush on. Of course the guy dumps her when he learns she’s 16 and we’re supposed to feel bad about this?

Overall it was alright, I liked the concept but the way it was done didn’t excite me as I thought it would. It just seemed uneventful

Nope. Can't do it. I refuse to read anymore. No one can make it.

I hate Tracy, the main character, and I could care less about what happens to her. I find her to be annoying and flat, and I can think of better ways to spend my time than reading this.

an interesting premise - a teen who pretends to have got acceptance to a university who fakes her way through part of a semester - an easy read but I did find the main character annoying. Her very privileged and sheltered life and her lack of insight into it.
