Built nicely on the premise of the first novella while moving in a new direction. Unfortunately the middle section (about Molly in the psych ward) felt like a lot of wasted space in a story so short.

The first book in the series blew me away and stuck with me for months. Sadly this sequel didn’t quite live up to that, but it was still very good. Can’t say much about it without spoiling the first book, but there were some twists and turns that I liked a lot, and it was interesting to follow Molly on some self discovery journeys. I didn’t feel as connected to the story this time, but I still had a great time and am looking forward to reading the third one it comes out.

Even though this one didn't really land with me as much and I feel it didn't have the same bang as TMOMS, I still enjoyed it and breezed through it and wished it was longer but kept the same high level intensity, intrigue, and weirdness. I liked TMOMS a little more but I liked how we got things explained here more and introduced to Tamara and her tamaras (that was my fav part but I'm also biased bc they share my name lol). Though, at the same time, having all the mystery spelled out kinda diminished the story somewhat. Like, personally, I liked it more when the experimentation and super secret spy stuff was ambiguous and had no definitive time place and location. Getting the short snippets of James's further deterioration and how the molly burst through him was so freaky. There are points where the medical background of the author jumps out, though, and the writing turns a little too jargon and even pretentious. It makes sense in story, but it kinda annoys me anyway. But I'll live with it. I did enjoy the little pop culture and art references. I learned a thing or two.
