It’s dark, morbid, and macabre. But it changed the way I think about death and the body afterward. Interesting read.

Have you ever wondered what happens after we die? Like not in the afterlife sense but what happens to our corpses, especially when we donate them to science?
This novel is a look into the curious after-lives of our little flesh bags. We get plastic surgery, get thrown from planes and test out bulletproof vests. Honestly, sounds more interesting than my day to day living life!
This book is a really interesting look into how cadavers have assisted us in developing everything in our day to day life. It’s respectful but also humorous, and I really enjoyed this read.

Mary Roach is just too good! Every chapter of Stiff was uniquely fascinating - it kept me engaged from start to finish. I love how she blends humor with science, making even the most unsettling topics both educational and entertaining (the ultimate writing feat imo). Her writing has convinced me to seek out the rest of her work, and I think journalistic nonfiction might be becoming one of my favorite genres. While some sections were undeniably grotesque, I couldn’t look away. If you have a fear of death or body gore, consider this your warning—otherwise, no complaints here. Five stars.
