I didn’t know any of this about cadavers before I read, except all the facts my sister told me after she read it

I really loved this book because it was slightly morbid but intriguing.
If you want to know about cadavers, read this book. Listen, Roach is a fantastic writer, and her voice is informative with a sense of humor. She is thorough in her investigations, and I noticed that many of the places she visited and the people she interviewed have gained notoriety and exposure in other media channels in the years since the book was published in 2003. I can't imagine the amount of reading, footnoting, tracking down, and following up she had to do -- and it makes for a great book. It is about death and dead people, which might be disconcerting for some. However, Roach does not over do it: just when I started to wonder how much more I could take, I was at the end. Nice and neat.
So enlightening and funny. Hard to approach humor when talking about severed heads for facelifts or a farm with decaying bodies in Tennessee. But she did it!
The human head is of the same approximate size and weight as a roaster chicken.”
The way I see it, being dead is not terribly far off from being on a cruise ship. Most of your time is spent lying on your back. The brain has shut down. The flesh begins to soften. Nothing much new happens, and nothing is expected of you.
