This book is absolutely heart wrenching, but the story is written and told so beautifully. After every devastation, I’d just sit there and reflect on the fact that it actually happened. And I’m horrified.

A very heavy and heartfelt account of one of the most awful life experiences possible. Heather Morris did a beautiful job following the wishes of Lale in this recount of his experiences in Auschwitz. It pulled at my heart the entire read, and gave me an insight in to not just the awful events that went on behind the gates of this tragic place, but also into the decisions and moral compromises people had to make to survive that place. Lale’s story is a truely unique telling of love and human spirit and despite all odds and risk, that caring for others and believing in love and life in spite of those who would take it all from you, is the most important thing.
