This book is a romance caught up in such a terrible time. Learning about how truly awful the Nazi's were from the perspective of someone who dealt with them for years, has made my negative feelings intensify. But my respect for the survivors become immeasurable.

I wish the characters were handled with more respect and care.

The main character is a good person who finds himself compromising his morals to continue to live and save as many others as he can. I find this to make his character decidedly more lovable. The most of the other side characters weren’t developed well enough to really have me care if they died. Sone I genuinely was upset by, but a lot I didn’t feel the impact. I figured it was a style choice to show the impact of being surrounded by death. The book was filled with characters that would put Satan out of a job, and they were based on real people. But she also also shown a lot of humanity too. All in all it’s a beautiful book. </spoilers>
