What a beautiful true story about the perseverance of 2 young souls placed in a concentration camp. When Lale finds himself in a place of power at the camps because of his ability to speak multiple languages, he begins using his power for the good of his fellow prisoners, secretly bringing in extra food and supplies for all to share. When he meets Gita, he becomes even more determined to survive and find his way to her when they are (hopefully) both free. A story of love, hardships and the fight for survival.

I finished this book in a single day and it has rendered me speechless. It clearly lays out many of the horrors and atrocities of the holocaust and really makes you think about what people had to go through during this time. I was gripped from start to finish and can't wait to read more of Heather Morris' works

The story was interesting and it was impactful to get a day-to-day account of what people in the camps had to go through. I just wasn’t a fan of the writing style, which felt very short and direct. The author did mention she intended for this to be a screenplay originally so that could be why.

Overall, still an extremely important book to read to know and understand the horrors that people faced.
