It breaks my heart and makes me furious that the attack this book is based on actually happened.  I think that, in and of itself, made me feel more strongly about the characters.  I related to Angel, and I wanted the best for Isaiah and Muggy.
I don’t think I can really put into words how I felt about this book.  It was beautiful, and sad, and hopeful, and heartbreaking, and heartwarming.

A historical YA novel that takes place during the Greenwood Massacre of 1921, in an area of Tulsa, OK, known as the Black Wall Street. Told from two perspectives of teenagers. One being Angel, she believes she was put on Earth to help others. While Isaiah is a bad boy with a sensitive side and writes poetry. They come together as an unlikely love blossoms between the two. Life changes from bliss to despair when a vicious white mob storms the community of Greenwood, leaving the town destroyed and thousand of residents displaced.
slow-paced

This was more of a y/a love story. It wasn't bad, but I was excepting something else.
