I really like two of the characters that we follow. Valyn is my favorite and I didn't like exactly how he ended in the book but it makes me excited for what happens next. I really do not like Adare. I think this book has taught me that I do not like the political struggle in most books. I hate every decision Adare makes for the most part. I want her to die in the next book so bad. She just seems like a person who thinks she knows what is best and that she can make all the decisions to make it happen. Kaden had a but of a change of attitude or approach in this book and i can see why he is doing what he is doing. I like it. I do not like how "gods" are getting involved because that has been done so much in other books. Why can't there be just bad guys or some other enemy? I will read the third book. One last question though. Why do people who ride horses regularly have to be barbarians and the "bad people" I think that has been overused as well. Kaden and Valyn are what make this series great and the worldbuilding you get through them is what was original and exciting. (Kettral, Monks, Giant cave lizard powers, danger portals) Give me more of this please.

Beetje langdradiger dan het eerste deel, gelukkig goedgemaakt in de laatste 100 pagina's.

I quite enjoyed the first book of the series and went into this read with high expectations. Unfortunately the expectations weren't met.

I have two main gripes with the book:

1. The protagonists seems borderline retarded half the time. All three are supposed to be highly trained within different fields but still can't make simple logical decisions half the time. The book tries to hide this behind them having to "make hard decisions" but it just doesn't work for me.

2. A lot of the main plot "surprises" where exceptionally easy to guess.

The only reason I did nog finish this book much sooner was some mental block in starting to Read further, cause every single time I picked it up I loved IT and found it An interesting story that filled my mind trying to pierce it all together

I just can't believe what I just read...
Perfect, everything was just the way I like, tho there are less deaths than I usually prefer, I love the characters, I love how the emperor's children aren't useless, which is rare in fantasy, I love the story, how the gods and ancient beings are mashed up with war and politics and normal people not knowing how to live a normal life...
I'm speechless, I loved it with all my heart.

Stakes are higher and the world has expanded seamlessly. Everything I want in a sequel, though some characters have gotten much more.... insufferable

3,5

"Kent kissing" nearly dropped it to a 2, but on the whole an interesting tale well told so a 3.
