Epic story continues to hook me in
I am hooked on this series! It's an interesting world, and I've come to care about three main characters, but i think what's really getting me is, in a traditional story, the hero is challenged but ultimately wins. I don't really know if that's gonna happen here. Every plot twist is out of the frying pan and into the fire as we slowly learn more about what is going on here and bad stuff happens too our heroes. I'm definitely along for the ride and can't wait to see where this goes.
I read the first book in a lot of series and then never continue. It's a good one if it's made me buy the full set like this one has.

Still compelling, still some good characters and story, a lot more going on that I didn't love. The desire to know what will happen next is still strong, but making sense of it seems harder. Enjoying the world less as this goes on.
Definitely some places where the dialogue about a character's inner mind state went on way too long.

The weapon is a shield. The Foe is the friend. What is burned cannot burn again.
Where do I even begin with the sequel to The Emperor's Blade. I don't think I have words to embody the tornado of emotions that swept through me while I read this one. I think that I should make it clear that I did enjoy the this read. I still can't say if I found to to be better than the first as I am still trying to process all that has taken place.
For the most part, I found myself doing this for a great part of my read.

The choices and rationalizations of our leads were STUPID to put it mildly ( esp. Adare) I honestly felt as though I could have strangle her. Her choices kept getting the characters I love most hurt and killed so I have a rising dislike for her character. Kaden seems like he's stuck in a hermit stage and my poor baby Valyn goes through the most suffering. I just can't stop biting my nails because I really do feel like just about anyone could be killed off at this point.
The last twenty percent of the book I was like

Brian Staveley did a fantastic job ( putting aside all my frustrations ) with the story development. I honestly can't tell what to expect from anyone, in this action pack, suspense ridden read. Nothing is as it should be and I've personally taken to reading this book lying down cause it will surely cause you to faint with it's plot twist and revelations.
I already have The last Mortal Bond lined up to read but at this point I'm seriously afraid to start it. I think that I'll send up a silent pray first before even attempting to start it. This trilogy is worth the time peeps but I urge that you take some calming and nerve pills before you even start. The author pulls out all the stops in ensuring that he works your very last nerve ( in both a good and bad way )

The second book from Brian Staveley in this series is better than the first book. The first book was building up the world and characters. This book progress the plot.
I really enjoyed the book and now have to wait for the third book to be release.
There were a couple of things i didn't like. Now, this is a little spoilerish, so don't read on.
The first is the fact the three story point of views seemed to follow the same path. All three got captured around the same time, and got freedom around the same time. It felt a little lazy - but it did not detract too much from the plot.
The last was the end. I like a cliff hanger when i know there will be another book - but this didn't have one. It could have, but didn't.
The audio version was excellent as always.
This series is building up nicely and if it continues like this, then i will be awarding the next book 5 stars.

If you thought our characters were better off, and that the threat against their lives was coming to an end, you were wrong. Now, however, we get a really big introduction to a vital piece pertaining the fate of our beloved Annurian; The Gods.
What I enjoyed most about this book was the adventure. We didn't feel stuck at one part of the empire as we read about our protagonists, we were taken beyond the border of their limitations and throw deeper into the world Staveley has built. And it rocked.
I felt that Staveley really improved his writing in this book: the overall plot progressed rapidly, the character development was great, and our actions scenes were easy to follow and fun to read. We begin to see the rise and fall of our characters, loving some more than last time, and beginning to hate others in ways we never saw coming.
With the background we are carrying over from the first book, we begin to "feel" more for our characters, shaking our head at the poor decisions we make, and nodding with a smile as they make their best decisions.
The Providence of Fire is a great sequel in the trilogy, and I can't wait to see what next. I'm finally starting to see the real threat to our characters, and as the plot unravels and thickens, my desire to turn the page increases.
