The first half of this book was slow moving and a bit confusing to me. This made me put it down for awhile. I picked it back up yesterday and flew through the remainder.

This book definitely deserves the hype it was getting. It is a mix of thriller, mystery, fantasy, and paranormal. It kept me guessing the whole way through.

The characters in here were very unique and well rounded. They definitely were well written and intriguing.

The plot was confusing in the beginning but was interesting once everything was set in place.

Highly recommend this to anyone looking for a paranormal fantasy with a huge mystery plot line.

Holy hell has Leigh Bardugo surprised me

Okay, first off, I only read the Shadow and Bone trilogy from her so far, and I have heard bad reviews for this book from everyone I knew who has read it, and since it took me about 200 pages to get invested in this plot, I was so pleasantly surprised when this book just blew up on me.

Alex is so much like Alina Starkov, she is a girl with power thrown into a world she more or less doesn't belong to. Except I actually really liked Alex and while her story is harsh, I think that's what made me like her, because it felt very real.

"You see me. You wish you didn't, but you do."

North is a baby, I love him, the silly goofy ghost, and I hope I haven't seen the last of him.

And Darlington? I have no idea how Bardugo did it but he was just instant love. And I can't even say why, because we don't see much of him but we all just love him. (Also can't believe I called the ending, I literally wrote my cospiracy theory into the book only for it to become the truth)

And you know what, it's been a long time since I read a book and ordered the second one full price to pick up at my local bookstore the very next day, on a weekend, so yeah, that counts for something.

I hope Bardugo continues with adult books. While I liked Grisha, it was always just missing something, that something being a bit more relatable for someone who isn't into YA (and still, Grisha was my favourite). So fingers crossed for more books like these.

This book scared me so much and also taught me the most courageous and difficult thing anyone can do is try to keep living when no one wants you to!!!!!! Alex Stern I love you more than you could ever know!!!!

Anyways I thought this was gonna be scooby doo and realised this is Veronica Mars meets Twin Peaks, and while I was DEFINITELY spooked, I loved this vibe soooo much wow
