Men in the Sun is a short novel that follows three Palestinian refugees, Abu Qais, Asad and Marwan, as they attempt to cross from Basra to Kuwait.

The situation of the Palestinian people has not changed or even get worse since Men in the Sun was first published. They remain a suffering people, cruelly dispossessed, marginalized, and murdered by the colonizer aka Israel.

5☆ — not surprised by the fact that i loved this, given that i already admire ghassan kanafani a lot. the final piece in this book, letter from gaza, was a wonderful way of wrapping up with this collection as it captures the selflessness and bravery of the palestinians who stay on in their homeland and persist despite having the means to flee. overall, this book touched all the right chords for me.

Even though this is a collection of sad, depressing stories, I found a lot of value in reading it. The stories hit hard. It’s a shame that anything remotely similar happened in the real world. Kanafani’s reflections of the realities of Palestinians refugees made me reflect on the contemporary situation. There are unfortunately a lot of similarities. Free Palestine.

Ghassan Kanafani's collection of short stories, especially the titular 'Men in the Sun,' is nothing short of a literary masterpiece. each narrative is a window into the raw realities of Palestinian lives, capturing the depth of human emotions amidst political turmoil. Kanafani's prose is both lyrical and heartbreaking. 'Men in the Sun' it's a compelling exploration of the human spirit against all odds - a must-read!
