I wrote a review somewhere, but I can't find it. So I'll try to write from my memory of the book...

DRAGON SHIFTERS. ICELAND. SIZZLING SEX BUILD UP.

There. There ya go, all I've got from my memory đŸ€Ł

Honestly, I love all Bec Mcmaster books. I feel like every book is amazing and awesome. And then she has a book about dragons in Iceland?! It's beautiful and sensual. The heroine was badass in that she's living on the edge of desperation and will NOT. GIVE. IN. I loved her grit and determination and fierceness. It made me think of her as a female Viking Shield Maiden of old.

Rurik! One of my favorite kinds of heroes. Usually, I love love Beta heroes. But I also love these sneaky and playful heroes that latch onto the heroine because of some qualities of hers that everyone else either finds odd or off-putting. He reminds me of Rejar in Dara Joy's Rejar - like a big, sleepy, trickster cat that likes belly rubs, attention, and sleeping haha. He saw something beautiful about Freya and dove right in because he felt something instinctively. I like how he pursues her.

Learning all dragon lore and dragon courts was just COOL for the nerd in me who loves to look at mountains and think of what lurks beneath them:-)

I also have to say that this has some of the BEST sequel-bait evahhhhhhhh, and I'm not even mad it. Sometimes, I feel like a jealous reader because I get annoyed at having other people's stories in my romance when I just want to read about the main couple... but THIS ONE, wow, I am so excited for the next books after we finally piece it all together!

A nice discovery =D

I had this author's books in my TBR for a very, very long time, but I hadn't had time to read them yet. With the Paris RARE coming (well in April xD) and several not very conclusive reads, I decided to try this book ... And overall, I had a good time =)

The characters were interesting and very endearing (I loved Rurik and the passages from his point of view !), the romance was very well written (I LOVED the way Rurik courts Freyja !! and the sex scenes ... <3) and the story really interested me (the intrigues with the court of dragons, the dragon hunter and his missing wife ...)
It's not a favorite because I would have liked the universe to be more developed (where do Freyja's powers come from ?? What happened with her mother ??) and (but it's personal) dragons have never been a favorite of mine. And I must admit that the second book does not tempt me too much because if I loved the dragon hunter, I have doubts about his "wife" and I would have preferred a second book about Rurik and Freyja (but maybe I'm wrong ... I would see =))

In short, not a favorite but a light and pleasant reading that made me want to read other books by the author =)

This was amazing. Heart of Fire is currently FREE on digital retailers, so I gave it a shot. And I’m so glad I did. This book was brilliant, from the captivating storyline, to the steamy romance, to the fierce heroine, and protective hero. I loved the world building and the writing style. This isn’t a super long book, around 280 pages but the pacing of it was perfect. It didn’t feel rushed at all and the relationship evolves in a way that felt natural. I seriously have nothing negative to say about Heart of Fire, it’s an awesome paranormal romance read and if you haven’t read it yet, go for it!

Part Icelandic fantasy, part unhinged and possessive dragon shifter. I thought this would be super fun, but it never fully came together for me.

I love me some instalove fated mates. With one exception: when I don’t think the couple is actually compatible. And I was scratching my head at these two being put together.

They were both stubborn, both quick to anger, both emotionally withholding but hurt by the other’s emotional withholding, and both liked to be in control. The result: the overall romance plot felt hot and cold, because these two could barely get along.

And ultimately to make it work, we had to break their characterization. He was all consent king one minute and then all ‘no doesn’t mean no’/‘I don’t care what you say, you don’t make the rules’ the next. And of course, add this book to the pile of bossy and cantankerous FMCs who become different people in the bedroom. At least make her bratty! Not this total 180 đŸ˜€

Also, a virgin MC is great—happens to all of us. But an a super old MMC who prefers virgins?? Oh nonono. I don’t care if there’s dragon lore reasons for it (he doesn’t like people touching his things). Still hate it.

And just overall, I didn’t love the way the romance and action plots were paced vis à vis each other. Like guys, I know you’re getting it on through the portal to his “Chaos bubble” (his words, not mine) but there’s a bunch of plot stuff you need to take care of out here..

The setup for the second book intrigued me.. we’ll see 😅

Dragons, dragon hunters, elemental magic, and a dreki court- this is everything you’re looking for if you’re wanting a bit of fantasy with a fierce female protagonist.

She who dares: Freyja confronts the elusive Dreki prince when he steals her ram. Captivated by her defiance, he sets about seducing her. The intimacies explore the difference between trying to own someone and trying to seduce someone. The foil being a local son who is trying to isolate, terrify, and starve her until she has only him to turn to. Whereas Her dreki is trying to find her heart’s true desire in order to win her trust. As with her other series, McMaster is exploring the concept of tenderness. What takes a relationship from raw physical attraction to love and tenderness for which you would sacrifice everything to protect?

What I love most about this first installment is how Freyja loves her dreki in both forms- his human and serpentine forms. In fact, as you read it, the form seems irrelevant to the way they interact and connect. The fluidness hints at a deeper level of connection and acceptance that draws the two characters together, speaking to the part of each of us who really wish to be seen.

Finally- what is Freyja? Not human, but something in a human form. While I appreciate setting up the mystery that will take us through the rest of the series, I always resent when young women are kept in the dark of their own powers. Ignorance is never ever protective. Knowledge is power and I always bare my teeth when authors take a really powerful female character and then leave her at the mercy of the male characters who always know more because she was not told who she is or trained in her magic.

Nevertheless, I’m excited for the rest of the series as we follow Freyja on this journey to discovering what she is, the extent of her power, and her place as the new princess of the dreki court.

Good action, I liked both characters, but I wanted more from the ending, especially since book 2 focuses on another couple. What’s Freyja’s origin? Weird that that wasn’t answered.

This was a fast, but sassy, steamy read.
Was surprised by how much I enjoyed it.

Would happily read more.

An enjoyable read

I enjoyed this story which took awhile to heat up and get to the ongoing storyline. The next book will determine if I continue reading the series.
