I read this book years ago and I loved it. I decided to do a reread, well I listened to it. It wasn’t as good as I remembered. I don’t remember it being in 3rd person, but the book is…not my favorite. The characters are childish, and very immature.

Ok, I know it's a romance novel and everything, but I would never hear men talking about falling in love and getting married the way that these Chandler brothers do.

I'm not sure why, but I did not get into this story the way I normally would for a Carly Phillips book. The story was solid and Roman and Charlotte had a great connection. This book was similar to Melody Anne's Anderson series in some ways and I wanted to enjoy this book. I will likely try to read it again another time.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

The three Chandler brothers - Chase, Roman and Rick - are left flipping a coin to see which one will bite the dust and find a wife in order to pacify their ailing mother. But the kicker is that Roman might have thought he lost the bet but when he wins the heart of Charlotte he has taken the prize. In true Carly Phillips fashion the reader is given a heartwarming story, beautiful written characters and just enough laughter and romance to make the pages turn faster. I cannot wait to see what she does with Chase and Rick!!

Coin Toss

Carly Phillips Chandler Brothers bk 01 The Bachelor

I read this years ago when I was plowing through Carly's backlist. The audio popped up during a library search, so I figured why not. I had forgotten more than I remembered, but I really enjoyed revisiting the Chandlers, in particular Roman Chandler, Charlotte Bronson, and the varied characters that make up the small town of Yorkshire Falls.

“Anyone ever tell you that you Chandlers are like hurricanes?”
-- Charlotte Bronson

Charlotte and Roman have very different reasons for remaining unattached. I like the history they shared and how they stumbled back into each other's lives.

Raina may have overplayed her hand a bit when it came to her actual health. The fact that her boys take the path they chose to amend for their bachelor ways is kind of comical, even if it's also ridiculous.

I read along with most of the audio book of the original release. The narrator is William Dufris. It's the first time I've listened to him and I like him.

Story: 4 stars
Narration: 3.5 stars
Listening Speed: 1.5x

DNF
I did not make a t through the first chapter, so this may actually be a good book. But the manipulation by the mother in the first few pages turned me off this book. Her life will only be complete if she marries off her son's and they give her grandbabies. Lying to them about her health, they are literally about to flip a coin to decide who will get married to make their mother happy. Toxic mother only thinking about herself. I can't.

This book was an easy read that left me smiling.

Despite her issues - that were a result of an unsettled and upsetting family life - Charlotte was kind, caring and sweet.
Roman was loyal, loving and a little wild.
Together, Roman and Charlotte were sweet, sexy and fun to read.

Lies have been told, hesitations thrown out the window, panties were stolen, and a coin was tossed. Intrigued yet?

She had walked away from her attraction to him once before, will he be the one that leaves her this time around? Or will he give up his wandering lifestyle to give her the stability that she craves?

You'll have to read this book to find out.
