Wow.
I read this as a tandem read with tower of dawn and, wow.
SJM really demonstrates her absolute, flawless ability to create slow-burning intrigue in this one. The plot twists, surprises and reveals were ALL so details, thoroughly thought out and perfectly written.
As usual, the start was a little slow but once things started kicking off, in true SJM style, they started KICKING OFF!!
that ending broke my heart. Aelin being taken and the found family being firmly sealed was EVERYTHING I wanted from this book. I am so excited to see them all come together for the last book on the battle field

This might be my favorite book of the whole damn series so far. What a rollercoaster of emotion…and that ENDING?! Wow.

How can I write this review with no spoilers? The character development and travels across the world of Erilea alongside our beloved characters was incredible.

Aelin is back, sassy as ever (of course) and has big plans up her sleeve to secure her throne as queen and the world’s fate. Every character has hidden mysteries of their own entangled with the adventures they must go on together. Buckle up, because you’re along for quite the ride.

This. Book. Was. So. Good.

I don’t know if there are words to describe this instalment. Maas is a masterful writer, and this book proves it.

ADDED AFTER 2023 REREAD

The first time I read this book I read it on its own. This time I decided to do tandem read it with Tower of Dawn, and that was an excellent decision! There are aspects of this book that I appreciated more on a reread, and knowing how it would end made the last few chapters that much harder to read. I still don’t love Aelin’s inability to discuss her plans with anyone in her court, but it’s definitely less annoying the second time around. 4 stars.

This book was so crazy. I read this one and Tower of Dawn in tandem, and the only reason why I think this book isn’t five stars for me is because of the tandem read? I don’t know reading both of them slowed me down and kind of confused me. This book was still fabulous though. The beginning was definitely a little slow, but the end was mind blowing. Another thing I loved about this book was that it really tied everything together? It was just crazy to see how all the loose ends and different povs throughout the series kind of came together in this book.
