I really enjoyed the progression of the story - we got to see how Liz’s awareness of her feelings and understanding of global issues evolved as she grew into herself. Docked a quarter of a star because the art wasn’t my favorite.

This graphic memoir was lovely. It was sweet but peppered with the sadness that comes with growing up in a world full of uncertainty. You have a front row seat as Liz gets to where she's headed which is a successful career in art. Contributing to The New Yorker and even doing art for the Biden presidential campaign. I felt a lot of pride reading this knowing that Liz is from a town not far from where I grew up. Liz writes with honesty and her drawing is unique and a joy to flip through.

Celebrated young cartoonist Liz Montague’s graphic memoir, Maybe An Artist, is a charming, funny, and intimately relatable story about a passionate kid with a dream that eventually comes true.  Chronicling her time in primary and secondary school, Liz touches on living in the shadow of older siblings, coping with expectations that don’t align with what brings you joy, and coming of age in an environment with almost no diversity.  When she wasn’t participating in athletics, Liz was constantly drawing, something that helped her navigate severe dyslexia and develop a fulfilling career.  Presented in accessible mixed-case text, this book will inspire young readers to make art about things they care about.
