I really enjoyed the whole series. The story gives off a darker vibe, but so lighthearted. The only thing I would change would be how little answers the reader gets. I need more!
Shiva and Teacher have a found family sort-of vibe and both of them are interesting characters.

4/5

Beautiful art style.

Precioso manga.

I loved everything about this. The cute and sweetness of the characters alongside the dark and melancholic art... I borrowed this from the library but I have a feeling I am going to need my own copy. This is my kind of slice of life.

I have heard so much good about this manga so I was thrilled to see it at the library. I found myself wondering what Irish myth the ‘monster’ is pulled from because he and the lead in The Ancient Magus’s Bride look a lot alike but that’s where the resemblance ends. Honestly I was a bit underwhelmed by this which is often the case with over hyped books.

It might have been because the story is too familiar or too dystopic in a time where the world is so bad I don’t want to read sad things. It might had been the art which I didn’t like much. It looked like a muddied Miyazaki. I mean Shiva spends half the book nose-less. It’s not that I hated it. I did like it but not nearly as much as I expected.

The Outsider, the ‘monsters’ whose touch would curse an Insider (humans), has found himself saddled with a young girl, Shiva, who looks to be about five. He’s scrunching in the town which is now abandoned, one assumes because of fear of the Outsiders. It’s obvious he’s rather fond of the little girl but has no real idea what to do with her which is compounded by the fact that they can not touch.

Shiva is waiting for her aunt to come and take her home. Even before the truth is revealed it’s clear that her aunt isn’t coming. The Outsider doesn’t know how to tell her. He doesn’t want to hurt her but he doesn’t know what to do. Here’s where the true dystopic elements come in. There are soldiers in the woods looking for any survivors of the city, especially on the look out for a little girl who’s been reported in the woods. There’s a mix of racial tensions here (against immigrants) and intolerance and one spooky panel where it’s plain to see the soldiers will murder anyone they suspect is cursed, even if they have to decimate an entire village or kill a child.

It ends on a cliffhanger that should spell deep trouble. I’ll read at least another volume. I’m grateful that the library has it.
