A little girl named Shiva travels with "Teacher," a tall being with a head like a horned bird. They travel through a dark, medieval-style land, Shiva looking for her aunt but Teacher knows they can't meet her for some reason. Teacher is an "outsider," a cursed creature that turns anyone he touches into other outsiders, so he can't touch Shiva in any way. They stay in an abandoned village, nearby soldiers on the hunt for outsiders presenting danger to Shiva. Something is going on here, but what...?
Siúil, a Rún is beautiful and atmospheric, full of mystery and a dark wonder, like a far less violent Dark Souls. Very little is explained in detail beyond what's needed and I love that. Shiva's adorable and Teacher is an appealing figure, wise and protective despite his monstrous appearance. Nagabe's art gives the story a dark fairy tale feel, Shiva frequently the only brightness in the gloomy scenes. A beautiful, almost comforting loneliness pervades the pages, the same appeal I get from the Little Nightmares series and Dark Souls again. A masterpiece of a comic.

The illustrations and the story are absolutely beautiful. It's heartwarming and heartbreaking in equal measures. I’m going to finish this series as soon as I can get my hands on the rest of volumes. An instant favourite.
