It was such a quick yet deep read. My story is very similar to this family. The feeling of not quite belonging and being looked at as an outsider is hard to express. It's so sad knowing 100000s of people live lives like this. Hard working and giving yet looked down on. I do wish the book was longer.

While the topic is very interesting, the execution fell flat. Just a very superficial way of telling a different twist on the immigrant‘s story. The book intended to be artsy fartsy/ DIFFERENT but all it caused was confusion.

A different kind of immigrant story. This is a story of a family from Colombia that enters legally and then overstays their visa. I thought it was good, but not outstanding. I didn't like the narrative so much; felt no connection to any of the characters. It felt very superficial.

Lyrical story of a Colombian family and their love and experience across and crossing borders. Beautifully written and I’m glad I read it, but pretty slow for me (although it’s short).

Tried the audiobook version of this and while I think the topic/content/characters are all very worthy of feature, this felt to me like a dump of historical events and a collection of tragic plot points all rolled into a few related characters. Just ended up thin and not compelling in any realistic way. I didn’t finish listening.

This poignant narrative delves into the heart-wrenching realities of immigration in our country. The story unfolds with a captivating structure, weaving together emotions that resonate deeply with the reader. The prose is rich and evocative, painting a vivid picture of the struggles faced by those navigating this challenging journey. I found myself engrossed in the storytelling, feeling the weight of each moment, even amidst the pain it conveyed.I enjoyed the read, even when it was painful.

This is a beautiful wrenching book about a migrant family, as many other reviewers have pointed out.
But the other theme of this novel can be described as a love letter from the author to Columbia. You can visualize how much this author loves Columbia through her writing. The Columbian creation stories are gorgeous and I appreciated another perspective about a country that is usually only depicted in American media as full of drug cartels.
