It was great. It's long, but the character development is exceptional. It made me want to do my best in all that I do.
This was not an easy book to get through but I kept going because I really wanted to know what happened to these people. Not gonna lie, I couldn't understand about 63% of what I was reading. Amazing that it became a real page turner at the 650 page mark! Anyway, I'm intrigued and will try again with GE.
A classic in every meaning of the word. The pace is slow, perhaps reflecting the quotidian life Eliot so artfully portrays throughout the novel, but the plot is engaging and the climax of the plot does pay off beautifully. Would recommend!!
I am so glad to have finally tackled this quiet epic. It’s the kind of book that I hope to read multiple times throughout my life, as I imagine I will gain new insights and interpretations at different life stages. It made me constantly stop and reflect on my own life. And it’s funny! So much unexpected sarcasm and wit. I laughed out loud many times. The use of the narrator is fantastic, allowing us to empathize with every character even when despicable. A story about how our small, daily choices affect each other’s lives deeply, for better or for worse. “For the growing good of the world is partly dependent on unhistoric acts; and that things are not so ill with you and me as they might have been, is half owing to the number who lived faithfully a hidden life, and rest in unvisited tombs.”

This books falls into the invariable pitfalls when reading a serialized novel. It’s enjoyable but read as a stand alone novel it’s too winding and long winded.
Only made it halfway through despite a valiant effort. Too plot heavy and dull.
Wonderful. A slow starter, but so rich and complex. I feel like this is one I'll come back to.
