More than just another murder mystery, a deeply disturbing examination of some of the most primal sides of humanity. If the ending is somewhat obvious, the journey more than makes up for it. Brilliantly executed psychological horror.

Flynn is a good writer. I was smitten with her ability to make you feel like you’re unraveling with her characters and to become skeptical of all that’s happening around you as you dig deeper into this twisted plot. However, I think she lacked in a shock factor. This is why I tend to shy away from murder mystery type stories. I tend to try to not guess, but you can’t read these and not get caught up in trying to pick out who will be revealed at the end, and in this, it was predictable. The main plot, focused on the murders, I had guessed the moment I met the character(s) who committed the crime, as well as picked up on the sub plot within four chapters of the novel. It was more of a confirmation feeling at the end than a reveal. But, that being said, I still really enjoyed this book. Where she lacks in shock value, she makes up for in sincerity in her characters and their tormented relationships. I think Flynn did a good job getting my interest quickly and keeping it. I think she gives you crude imagery that really sinks you into some morbid explorations of her character’s mindsets. This is a decent quicker paced mystery, that contains a lot of dark mental health and personality perceptions.

Moves so quick, there's no time to digest the different points. Works both as a quick page turner, and as something to think about months afterward. First Gillian Flynn book I read and I'm hooked!
Having said that, I might be a bit slow - a few weeks after reading, I suddenly sat up in bed and exclaimed, "Ohhhh, they were the Sharp Objects all along :o"

The graphic descriptions of cutting really turned me off. I'm not partial to self harm as a general thing. The book itself was pretty good though.

I felt nauseous at the end...
