This was a short read but it was super graphic and dark. Consider this your trigger warning because everything in this book could trigger someone. Despite that, giving it a 7/10.

A book about a reporter who has to return to her hick home town and report on the murders of two young girls, while simultaneously rehashing old wounds and getting to know her significantly younger half sister. I think this book was well written for the most part and heart wrenching in many ways. There was some predictability and also some surprises.  It was a little unrealistic in my opinion but not impossible. I do feel like it was a little unnecessarily graphic at times but I guess dark things are meant to make you uncomfortable.

If you like creepy mysteries you’d probably like this book but as I said, major trigger warnings so read at your own risk.

Amazing, in a very scary way. It gave me goosebumps while listening to it. There are some erotic, but necessary, parts, which were finely executed, sensual but not dirty.

This story is amazingly engrossing. A highly recommended read.

Predicted the twist pretty early on. Slow going through most of the book, not one of my faves

I found this book very gripping despite its flaws. The first half was a little slow to me but it really picked up in the second half.

I thought the murderer was fairly obvious early on in the story, even though it was seemingly supposed to be a twist.

But also, the descriptions of children’s bodies in the book were just flat out gross. At first I thought that it was meant to show how Camille is very mentally unwell. But by the last time it was mentioned it felt very gratuitous and just weird.

Overall, Camille is a deeply disturbed MC which made her point of view both unreliable and very compelling. And the rest of the family is even stranger.
