I accidentally read Gillians work backwards: starting with Gone Girl and ending with this one so her writing (expectantly) got less polished as I went. However, I still loved this story. Flynn has this unique way of making deeply flawed and disturbed characters that you somehow find yourself invested in by the end.
Through the suspense and mystery there are still meaningful statements on humanity and violence that very few authors have managed to capture so expertly.
I’m sad I’ve reached the end of her works but could not put this book down once I started.

Overall a unique mystery thriller from a perspective outside the detective. Also nice that the reporter is just a reporter and not some hero reporter that can also detective. At points it felt a bit rushed and evidence simply revealed instead of discovered but the twist at the end makes for a good read.
