really enjoyed this one. it never felt like it was dragging on, and the ending was a surprise for me (twice). i found it weird how the 13 year old sister was described by Camille though lol.

I wasn't that fond of this one. It was lacking something. Can't quite put my finger one it.

This is like a 3.5 for me.

Firstly, it took me 10 days to read this book because I’m in a hella reading slump/depressive phase, so that might contribute to my liking of this book.

Secondly, someone on the internet SPOILED THE FUCKING ENDING for me. I imagine the twist would’ve hit a lot harder had I not been spoiled. Fuck that person tho. Ugh.

I don’t know why, but I’m crying at the end. All of the characters in this book are hella fucked up, similar to Gone Girl, where the main characters are kind of unlikeable but you root for them. I liked Camille alright, I guess. I found her self-harm really fascinating and beautiful in a fucked up, horrifying way. I found her

fucking disgusting and really made no sense to me in the context of the story. I loved that ending, although, again, I’m crying. Perhaps because I just feel so sorry for Camille.

Themes in this book: abuse, self harm, murder, drug use. A whole lotta bad shit that’s best experienced through a book/movie, not from personal experience. I think a mature 16yo could read this, but it’s got a lot of heavy stuff.

Characters: Adora and Amma are very memorable in a very creepy, gets under your skin and settles there way. Camille is kind of forgettable, altho I do like her character. Richard is whatever. Curry I love. Him and Eileen had me crying at the end.

So yeah. Read it. I enjoyed it but not as much as I think I would have had it not been for a) my depression sucking my love for shit outta me and b) someone ruining this damn book.

4.5 stars - to think this is Gillian Flynn's debut novel...never seen women depicted as harshly and raw as the way she does, and that is a compliment. I can't decide if I like this more than the miniseries, both were equally astounding.

⭐️ 3.4 rounded down

So this was insane. At no point in the story did I know what was going to happen next. Absolutely twisted & sick. So many layers & complexities. I think it’s pretty obvious from the lulls in the plot’s execution (as well as the weird descriptions of the children in the story) that this is a debut.

The ending is super rushed; I think Camille’s flashbacks could have been more spread out in the last half of the novel. In dissent with some of the other reviews on this story, I actually really liked the reveal coming from Camille’s repressed memories instead of being shown actively through the plot. I think it did her character justice by allowing her to get closure about her own confusion about her past & the death of her sister. It also fits more appropriately with the introspective tone of Camille’s narrative.

Sharp Objects is absolutely wild, and not for the faint of heart.
