I love this book series an unbelievable amount. These characters feel like family. Tears were flowing and laughter was had. For Keeps ❤️
First Read:
♾/5 ⭐️
This book (book series) has become a new all time favourite! No words will describe the way I love all of these characters. They all deserve the whole world and more.
I had to read the last 100 pages on my bedroom floor because it was the only way to process the roller coaster of emotions that I was going through.

If you had told me at the start of this year that I would binge two 600+ page young/new adult contemporary romances back to back, only for it to become one of my favourite reading experiences I have had in years, I would absolutely not have believed you. And yet, here we are...
After I finished Binding 13, I really tried to take a little break and read something else first, but Johnny & Shannon (& co.) were taking up all my brainspace so before I knew it I had thrown all other plans out the window and just jumped straight into this sequel anyway. I mean, someone should have warned me that this first duet in the Boys of Tommen series really is just one book broken up in two instalments, because there is truly no way that you can peacefully live your life without knowing how things move on after that bombshell ending of Binding 13.
If it wasn't already clear, 'obsessed' is the only word I can use to describe how I feel about these characters. I didn't feel like I was reading about their lives, I felt like I was there living through it all right along with them, and I loved every second of it. Like, it's truly been so long since a book has made me feel so much, be that pulse-pounding anxiety, intense heartache, or all the giggly and giddy happiness.
And sure, this book can feel a bit like a hormone/testosterone bomb at times, but what else could you expect when you are reading about 16-18-year-olds?! I personally think Walsh does a phenomenal job of realistically capturing the teenage years in all their messy glory, and I was just eating up all the angst, lust, sexual tension, (juvenile) banter, and overall flirty vibes.
Also, this is so much more than just Johnny and Shannon's epic love story, and I loved that the side cast really got to SHINE here. From Johnny's rugby team to Shannon's big dysfunctional family and to Johnny's wonderful saints of parents, they are all such emotionally complex people that I absolutely loved (or loved to hate, in some cases). Moreover, the themes of abuse, loss, grief, addiction, and trauma that lie at the core of this story are handled in such a brutally honest yet beautifully gentle way, which is exactly what added that emotional weight and maturity to the story that makes it stand out from the crowd for me.
Now, I can't sit here and pretend that the writing is outstanding or that the plot is very tight, but the fact that I was so invested that I didn't even care to notice a single flaw about this story is honestly a testament to Walsh's storytelling skills. I am absolutely going to binge the absolute hell out of this series, and I am so (not?) ready for the entire emotional rollercoaster!!
