This book, ahh what can I say, it is as informative as it is interesting and real. To be a woman, to be an immigrant, to be a young adult, forced to face much of reality and its truths alone. Its pacing and emotional expression is both clear and quaint. I can see this life she lives, I can connect to it in its sadness and its inspiration. Its as cautionary as it is necessary and familiar, seeing life through Ana's life.

This is the best book I've read so far this year. It reminds me of La Casa en Mango Street with the vignette-style writing. The story is gripping, yet so ordinary for people from the Dominican Republic traveling to America for a new life. I tore through this book with the engaging characters and the beautiful writing. Angie Cruz is a master of her craft.

I purposely went into this book blindly. It was just okay.
