I just think this wasn’t my cup of tea of a romance book.

Alex seemed too controlling for my liking, and it felt like their relationship was borderline abusive with the way he reacted to Ava doing anything. Why did he always want to fight anyone that even tried to be friends with her? I get being jealous, but there’s no reason to be THAT aggressive. He almost got me with the small gestures he did towards the end, but I literally was cringing anytime I read that he was gonna kill whoever looked at her or something along those lines. I got the ick from how Alex talked to Ava 98% of the book.

As someone who read the King of Sin series before the Twisted series, I always appreciated the little mentions of Ava and Alex in the later books. From the beginning, I had a feeling that Ava would be a character I’d like — and I absolutely adored her. I’ve always admired people who try to see the good in the world, as that’s something I aspire to as well. But sometimes, certain experiences can shift your mindset, making it harder to believe in the positive side of things. Ana Huang portrayed that struggle beautifully in Ava’s character, and I quickly grew fond of her — to the point where she might be one of my favorite characters Ana Huang has written.

As for Alex, I liked him, though I had some conflicting feelings. He’s well written and I understand his character, but he’s just not the kind of man I would personally go for. Nevertheless, he and Ava were very sweet together.

The story, as always, was engaging and well written. I truly enjoyed this book.

A solid 3.25/5.
