This had such great potential. I love food in books. But somehow the plot was just so flat. And conflict was created and then forgotten. Also let's be honest, the royal family doesn't care about a cooking competition that much...

#reachingchallenge2022 (my book written in 2022)

Love, cooking tips, and new recipes-I was boiling with anticipation to devour this novel-
Honestly, I didn’t really care about the historical fiction aspect-the idea if Princess Charlotte didn’t die in childbirth, but became Queen-while also broaching women’s rights, quality, and education within the time period- again I was focused on the love and food- but the book had meh characters and the food recipes could only save so much.
The characters

Love, new recipes, and cooking tips-I was boiling for anticipation to devour this novel-

I wasn’t intrigued by the historical fiction aspects, so many others loved, i.e the idea if Princess Charlotte didn’t die from childbirth, but instead became Queen, the idea of women’s rights, quality, and education- I wanted to instead focus on the characters-their love and their food. But overall the characters were meh, and the food recipes could only be so interesting.

The characters felt overly predictable and dull when it came to development-while I thought I’d be happy with Elijah & Penelope, the attraction was too blatantly obvious and with that slow; give me a little heat in the kitchen, resistance in the sauce, and kick to the flavor. It was too ‘step by step’- like a recipe: step 1 step 2 step 3- I believe a good chef can create based on flavor, feelings, and other senses while this was too formulaic .

A "delicious entanglement" indeed! I thought this was a cute take on a gender-swapped My Fair Lady
