Not one of Moore's best works, but still very entertaining. The colouring in this edition is fantastic and suits the tone of the story much more than the piss-stained original.

Argumento profundo en pocas páginas. Solo bastan 30 minutos para que Moore nos deje una enseñanza moral para toda una vida.

Considered to be an important yet controversial Batman story. Alan Moore added to Joker's origin story, further details like his family, how he struggled to make ends meet, how one bad day pushed him into crime & into the chemical vat. But what turned him insane: the chemicals or his bad day? This bad day connects both him & Batman, while one turned to crime, the other became a vigilante. And yet both are bitter, lonely & in pain. Batman admits that either's death is gonna be at the hands of the other. What's more, the story has an open ending which only drove readers crazy with speculations, especially coz both were seen laughing heartily at a joke. Does Batman really wanna kill joker, especially after learning his origins? This is yet another collectible, especially when a writer like Moore attempts his take on a storyline as big as the Batman - Joker relationship.
And had it not been for tim burton's intro, I'd have totally missed the importance of graphics in this book. Published in '88, this was meant to be a return of the dark, sombre theme in Batman stories (remember some of the cheerfully colorful Batman comics which were meant to be kid friendly?) But the '88 version was still too colorful for colorist Bolland's tastes. So when the deluxe edition was printed in '08, Bolland redrew the entire book to his liking. And boy is it sombre & serious! Here's how he drew the flashbacks, in B&W with only one item in color, so as to build up to the main twist, visually, one panel at a time. This is definitely not meant for kids, heck it's gonna make many adults gloomy. (Remember the gloom in the joker movie?) This detail is an example of the beauty of graphic novels, the amount of thought put in the graphics besides the plot itself.

While this is considered essential reading for any hardcore comic book reader, I thought the story was just 'ok.' I think it's a bit over-hyped, but I will say that it takes a unique approach to discussing the male psyche in regards to mental health, grief, and similar topics.
Warning: This reviewer has never read Batman before.
So I wasn't expecting the opening pages to be so sentimental. Oh how wonderful, Batman wants to explore his relationships with all his friends/villians/playbuddies. As soon as I expected them to exchange cookie recipes the joker really steps up and becomes the bad ass I was hoping to read about.
Why hasn't there been a movie written about THIS joker? Far more sinister and I didn't mind the sentimental flashbacks. I get the feeling that I am missing many plot threads from other comic books and any geek out there can point out the crap I missed but this book kicked ass on its own. Its a good book to point out to those that don't know Batman (or those who really don't care to) because this book is more about the Joker.
Worth a read, but then you really aren't sacrificing much time to read this one because its so short. Don't bother with the intros and the segment written by the author at the end, their strength is NOT in prose.
