This is definitely the weakest entry in the series, which is a shame given that it's the last one. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed seeing how the storyline wrapped up, and it was certainly very considerate of the bad guy to take time out of his villainous plots to help Wei Wuxian sort out his love life, but there just wasn't enough content to justify a whole book. It's basically a porn explosion from the 25% mark, which was somewhat unexpected... and I didn't like the porn. Be gentle with each other, boys! This should not be used as a how-to guide under any circumstances.

The bonus stories basically left such a sour taste in my mouth that I ended up suddenly so distanced from the story entirely. Not sure I want to read more from MXTX if she's a fan of con/non-con. Like, seriously no shade to anyone who enjoys that, I recognize that this is 100% a taste thing, but I really liked this book and then after too much of that smut I was totally uninterested in reading anything more about these two ever again. It took me several months just to write this review.
I liked this series a lot. I didn't like the bonus stories. I'm sad that everyone says they're required reading because I think if I'd read more people saying (WITHOUT SHAMING) that they aren't required, I might feel a little less bad about not liking them. And not wanting to read more.

perfect ending to the series! i loved all the additional ‘extra’ chapters, really light and fun after all the mystery and angst of the series. SPOILER: wei wuxian and lan wangji’s confession scene in the temple was the best.
