I know part of the reason I barely liked this book was because I found out it's after Reylo.

Besides that, I didn't enjoy the premise. Fake dating is one of my favorite tropes, but the way it was used for this story didn't sell me. It was done too immaturely--it felt better for a high school setting. Not for a professor and graduate. Also, the awkward moments that were supposed to be cute were just cringe for me.

I didn’t think I could ever like ANYTHING based off of Reylo. But so many people were raving about this romance book that used to be a Reylo fanfic, so I had to see for myself.

This book follows PhD candidate Olive, who must fake-date notorious asshole professor Adam Carlsen to convince her best friend that she’s in a relationship. But we all know where this is going, don’t we?

I really liked this book, and the main reason is cause it’s NOTHING like Reylo. While the plot does rely heavily on miscommunication (which I didn’t mind too much but some people might), I generally found the central romance to be super cute and full of chemistry! *badum tish*

Olive is shy and quirky, which I was afraid would annoy me, but her brilliant science mind really grew on me! She’s also heavily implied to be demisexual. Adam is a large grumpy man who will do anything for his significant other, and we simply have to appreciate that :D

It’s worth noting that the main plot starts with Olive kissing Adam without his consent. I felt that it was made clear Olive was in the wrong (the book acknowledges it as assault), and I appreciated seeing their relationship blossom with mutual respect going forward. Quite understandably, though, not everyone will be comfortable with an endgame romantic relationship starting that way, so please be aware.

Overall, I found this to be a super cute and enjoyable read that took me through a rollercoaster of emotions and left my heart feeling all melty inside!

Spice level: Graphic

CWs: Non-consensual kissing, workplace sexual harassment, anxiety, mentions of parental death and terminal illness.

This book was an amazing ride. It throws you right in and drags you along through every laugh, tear, smile, and smart-ass comment. I loved Adam and Olive so much, and I wish I could have lived with them a little longer.

I really loved everything about this book except for the sex. It felt like the characters were two entirely different people the second the clothes came off and I think they could’ve gone about it in a much healthier way. A more passionate, intimate, sensual scene would’ve been way hotter.
