The premise of the story is intriguing, and I'm curious about a POV character who's not entirely likeable/sympathetic. Evelyn's long, drawn-out, self-pitying thought patterns were a challenge to get through, especially delivered from a first person perspective. But the complexity of her situation -- being forced to relate to a clone of herself who was programmed to be more likeable -- does give me pause to question my own internalized misogyny (Why do I want Evelyn to be likeable/relatable? Why do I wish she would stop complaining? Would I feel the same way about a character of a different gender?) Still, I would have liked to see some of the time spent on her angst given to deeper world-building. What is a society like where human clones are almost universally accepted, part of the norm? Are there groups advocating for their rights? How would a more complex world complicate (and add interest) to the fiasco Evelyn finds herself in? The story as a whole might have worked better for me as a novella -- shorter, with fewer internal diatribes.

2.5 rounded up. It felt like a lot of things were going on but also nothing happened at the same time.
