This is a very fun series.
It's a lot funnier than it needs to be with genuine jokes as well as all the mystery stuff.
The mystery is well written with lots of red herrings and a killer that makes sense, but which still comes as a bit of a surprise, at least to me.

Robert Thorogood delivers another brilliant cozy mystery with The Queen of Poisons, the third installment in the Marlow Murder Club series. This time, Judith Potts, Suzie Harris, and Becks Starling find themselves investigating the suspicious death of Marlow’s mayor, who collapses during a heated council meeting. What begins as a shocking and seemingly natural death quickly spirals into a complex investigation when clues suggest foul play—and the potential use of poison.
The setting of the council meeting is a fantastic starting point, as it immediately introduces a host of colorful suspects with plenty of motives. From political rivalries to personal grudges, the Marlow Murder Club is up against a tangled web of secrets as they attempt to determine who might have wanted the mayor dead—and why. Thorogood weaves intrigue and small-town drama seamlessly, drawing readers into the layered dynamics of Marlow's political scene.
What truly elevates this installment is how the murder investigation pushes our beloved sleuths into new and challenging territory. Judith, with her razor-sharp wit, uncovers surprising alliances and betrayals among Marlow’s elite. Suzie’s charm and resourcefulness open doors no one else can, and Becks faces a personal dilemma as she finds herself unexpectedly entangled with one of the suspects. Their friendship remains the series’ heart, providing humor and warmth even as the mystery grows darker.
The poison element adds a fascinating layer to the plot, with Thorogood expertly incorporating scientific details about toxicology into the story. The clues are cleverly planted, and the twists are perfectly paced, keeping readers guessing until the shocking conclusion.
As always, the cozy charm of Marlow contrasts beautifully with the sinister events unfolding beneath its picturesque surface. Thorogood’s trademark humor and keen eye for human nature shine throughout, making this book as delightful as it is suspenseful.
The Queen of Poisons is an absolute triumph, combining sharp plotting, engaging characters, and a satisfying mystery. Fans of the series will adore this new adventure, and newcomers will find it a fantastic introduction to the world of the Marlow Murder Club. Highly recommended for anyone who loves a clever, cozy “whodunit”!
